That sucks. How much are OEM rims (I’m assuming) worth on the black market? $100 a piece? It seems like a lot of risk for not much reward.

errrr. Rim and tire packages are like 1000 min. i’ve seen as high as 4000 for a set. no real way to track them either.

OEM 19” Accord sport wheels are crazy valuable. Even most cars’ stock 16” or 17” sets can bring decent cash.

I’m hoping to stave off any such theft from my accord by scuffing up the front right wheel during haphazard parallel parking. After three tire rotations I have a complete set of dinged wheels. #ForwardThinker

Jack up the front of the car and pull front 2 wheels

Place brick in middle of car on both sides

Lower front of car, brick acts as fulcrum and rear tires lift

Remove rear wheels

Only had to jack the car once to remove all 4 therefore quicker

I remember back in the day for the second Gen Acura Integra GS-R, their factory wheels/tires were in hot demand. Everyone with a Civic or non-GS-R Integra wanted them.

Then again, the same goes for the GS-R Integra (the whole car). My buddies had his stolen from his garage, they even moved another car in front of it to get it out.

I remember upgrading my 15” alloys to 16” alloys (rare OE option) back in the very early 2000s. The dealer said list price for all of VW’s OE 16” were $300-$400 per wheel.

I found a brand new set on ebay for $400 (no tires) and that was a steal. The seller was so mad. I was the only bidder.

Larger OE sizes can be almost double that. But keep in mind that OE wheels may be generally heavy, but are usually super durable. Just look at all the OE replica wheels on ebay trying to undercut the overpriced dealers.

Right now I have the 124 inside and I park my S2000 inside (or have most nights). I’ve parked it outside a lot so they probably scoped the place out ahead of time and thought they were going to be able to steal the set of wheels off that too! I guess I could park the Fiat back close to the curb so that I could let my mom park in the other side of the garage and I could still sneak in past the Fiat to park the S2K...

Kinja'd!!! JustAnotherG6 > MasterMario - Keeper of the V8s

If that is the case go grab all the steelies for Malibu/G6/Buick whatevers for $25 per and sell them on ebay for $100. The cheapest single wheel I could find even on ebay way about $150. At that point I was ready to buy a new set for that much on tire rack but my better half vetoed that idea.

Tucking Fhieves!

Really sorry to hear about this. Hopefully the pinch weld /frame rail is ok from being on the brick. This can really happen in any area so sadly, not much you can do but have good insurance. I moved from what many people consider a rougher part of the city (I loved it there) to a supposedly nice suburb area and within 3 months, someone broke both my windows and stole the hardtop off my Miata. In the rain. So as crappy as this is, at least you don’t have to strip the interior let everything dry, and clean mildew LOL.

Kinja'd!!! InfinityAero > SPAMBot - Horse Doctor
06/14/2018 at 12:00

Kinja'd!!!0

Ugh... that sucks on the Miata hardtop! I typically park my Fiat and S2K in the garage... but I may transition to leaving the Fiat outside under a cover so that my mom can use the other half of the garage. Hopefully I don’t come out to find it in the same condition; the 13" wheels aren’t worth much of anything so it’ll probably be OK.

The dealership came by and picked up the car— they’re claiming there’s no damage to the frame or rails so that’s good news! I’ll have to take a look myself later to confirm.

We just recently moved to Clinton MD from Springfield VA— we’re in a decidedly nicer neighborhood than where we were in VA, but we also probably don’t get as much police traffic through the neighborhood. Sometimes a ‘quiet’ neighborhood can be a detriment; a lot easier to find times where there will be no witnesses. That said, the county we’re in has a reputation for having more crime than Northern Virginia, so congratulations petty thieves for proving every “PG County is a ghetto” statement correct. Time to get wheel locks, more cameras and hope it’s an isolated incident...

Kinja'd!!! SPAMBot - Horse Doctor > InfinityAero
06/14/2018 at 12:12

Kinja'd!!!1

Hopefully the other cars are fine and this is an isolated incident. Those Accord wheels are the #1 stolen auto item it seems like.

Maybe a motion light and a very obvious camera will help deter thieves in the future. I wouldn’t worry about the neighborhood being too ghetto. I feel like a lot of petty crime happens in the nicer areas since thieves see these as quiet, non expecting honeypots.

I was so pissed about my top. The car was street parked (occasionally garaged) for several years on a pretty busy road that led to the local beach and right by a major bus stop. Nothing ever happened. 3 months in a suburban drive way, boom. Oh well, feel thankful that although it’s a pita and is still going to cost money, your life is still better than whoever stole those wheels. You do not need to go around stealing to make a living. Hopefully the day gets better!
